Dave (Brookie) Brookman (Learn to Fish Instructor)
Brookie started fly fishing when he was about ten or eleven years old.
One of his older bothers put a fly rod in his hand, gave him a lesson or two, took him down to one of the small streams near where he grew up, a small town in Connecticut and said have at it. Brookie is now seventy years young and going strong. He ties local patterns for the waters in and around our area. Here at The AuSable River Two Fly Shop you can find him tying at his desk or giving instructions on fly casting. He loves to fish for Brook Trout and if asked he may tell you about one of his favorite spots to Find them.
Stop in to the shop and say hi.
Our staff at The Fly Shop consists of some of the best fly fishing experts in the business.
We are happy to coordinate private instruction for individuals, or for any size group.
Tom Conway ((River Guide)
His gentle manner, infinite patience and great sense of humor make Tom Conway a popular river guide. Following the "call of the fish" to the Adirondack Park 13 years ago, Tom is a respected angler, rod builder, fly tier and lure maker. His clients benefit from his remarkable attention to range of knowledge and experience in all types of fishing and gear. When Tom takes you fishing you may be casting from the banks, wading streams and rivers, gliding quietly in a canoe or chasing bass and pike full throttle, but you will certainly be discovering water that is off the beaten path. Instrumental in the development and naming of the growing annual Two Fly competition on the West Branch of the Au Sable, Tom has worked diligently to promote and preserve the fishing experience in the Adirondack Park. So, if you spot a "TwoFly" New York license plate on a truck tucked away in a remote area, you have stumbled on Tom and a lucky client in one of his "secret" spots.
John Ruff (River Guide)
John was born and raised south of the Adirondack Park in Saratoga Springs, New York. He spent his childhood fishing in the Catskills, the Adirondacks, and on the Battenkill River. His passions also include rock climbing, ice climbing, and telemark skiing and camping in the Adirondack backcountry. His enjoyment of outdoor activities has led him on many adventures: west, to the Rockies and Sierra Nevada Mountains, and north to Alaska.
John’s interest in fly fishing includes every aspect of the sport; he builds the rods he uses and ties the flies needed to catch the sometimes-selective Adirondack trout. John has spent more than a decade living in Wilmington and chasing trout on the West branch of the AuSable River. He is an energetic fisherman and guide. His favorite fly fishing technique is picking pockets with nymphs and large dry flies. John enjoys introducing new people to the joys of fly-casting, reading the water, and catch-and-release fishing. He is always excited to work with experienced anglers on advanced techniques and introducing clients to his favorite Adirondack “honey holes.”

Wesley Cunningham (River Guide)
Wess grew up here in the Adirondacks. He has been fly fishing since a young lad. He knows the river well. If you are into dry fly fishing, he is your man. Wess like the AuSable bomber and the AuSable Wulff. He has spent many hours working these flies that Francis Betters created. Wess is also a song writer. If you are lucky he may sing to the fish, alluring them to come to rise for your fly
